We never know how we end up getting split ends. The only way to get rid of split ends is to snip them off. So instead of focusing there, here are four awesome tricks to prevent split ends from happening again.
- Get regular trimming – No matter how well you look after your hair, it can cause some wear and tear, and therefore you can’t prevent split ends entirely. Though, proper care will allow you to stretch trim appointment to every eight to twelve weeks or even longer. Notice your split ends regularly, don’t let it get worse and travel all the way up to the root.
- Oil your hair before you wash – During shampooing, the hair absorbs water and swells, causing splits to form. That’s why it is suggested to oil your hair before every wash. Oil forms a protective sheath around your hair thus reducing the damage during the washing process. Also, oil nourishes your hair and helps restore its moisture balance. Coconut, sesame, and jojoba oils are the best to use.
- Dry hair gently – Wet hair is fragile and vulnerable to damage. Vigorously rubbing your hair dry with a towel creates tangles and twists in many unnatural directions, thus creating split ends. Instead, dab the dripping hair with a towel to get rid of the excess water.
- Use a wide tooth comb – Detangle your hair after shampoo is best by using a wide-tooth comb. Do not tug it down your hair from the root to the tip. Start at the ends and gently work your way up, if you encounter a tangle, just gently untangle with the comb or your fingers and then proceed.
Be kind to your hair and it will be beautiful
