Our lips are naturally pink and slightly moist; however, many of us experience lip discoloration often. There are many causes of dark lips, including overexposure to UV rays, allergic reactions, use of low-quality cosmetics, excessive smoking, caffeine intake, and hormonal imbalances.

If the darkening of the lips is not related to inflammation or any other serious condition, in that case, you can lighten your lips for a healthy, fresh and youthful appearance through the use of homemade remedies.

Exfoliating the Lips

Before you do anything else, you need to get rid of the dead skin cells on your lips that may be causing you to hide your beautiful and natural lip colour. Many lip scrubs are on the market, but you don’t have to spend a fortune. Many home remedies can help you remove dead skin cells, soften your lips, and get them ready to show the world their natural pink colour.

Lemon

Lemons have whitening properties, so they can lighten the colour of your lips in the same way that they treat skin spots and dullness. All you have to do is squeeze one lemon and apply its juice to your darkened lips every day before bed for a month or two.

You can also apply a mixture of half a teaspoon of lemon juice, glycerin and honey to your lips before bed and continue daily until you see results.

For a natural lip scrub that removes dead skin cells and promotes cell regeneration, simply cut a slice of lemon, sprinkle some sugar on it and rub it on your lips.

Rose Petals

Rose petals are also a miraculous remedy for the lips. Wash the rose petals with water and soak them in glycerin for a few hours. Mix this to make a thick paste and apply it to your lips several times daily. The red or pink colour will also give your lips a healthy tint.

Olive Oil

Olive oil contains essential nutrients that deeply nourish your lips and give them their natural colour.

In this case, you can apply a few drops of extra virgin olive oil to your lips every day before going to bed and massage gently, or mix half a teaspoon of sugar with a few drops of extra virgin olive oil and apply gently to your lips only once a week.

Beetroot

Beet is a natural ingredient with natural whitening properties and is effective in brightening dark lips. Apply fresh beet juice to your lips before going to bed and wash it off the next morning.

You can also mix equal amounts of beet juice and carrot juice and apply it to your lips. Massage it in gently and wash it off with lukewarm water after 10 minutes. Repeat this once a day for a week or two.

Berries

Berries such as strawberries and raspberries are effective sources of essential minerals and vitamins that help keep your lips healthy and rosy.

Mix half a tablespoon of raspberry juice with a bit of aloe vera gel and honey, apply the refreshing and soothing paste on your lips, rub it lightly and leave it on for 10 minutes, then rinse it off with lukewarm water. Do this three or four times a week.

You can also mix one tablespoon of strawberry juice with two tablespoons of Vaseline and apply it as a lip balm twice a day.

Almond Oil

Almond oil is a great natural way to brighten your lips because of its brightening, softening and moisturizing properties. Mix 5-6 drops of almond oil with a spoonful of honey, apply to lips and let dry.

Pomegranate

Pomegranate nourishes and moisturizes dry, parched lips, helping to restore their natural pink colour.

To make it, simply crush a tablespoon of pomegranate seeds, mix it with a little cream and rosewater, apply the paste on your lips, rub it for a few minutes, rinse it off with lukewarm water and repeat once a day.

You can also mix an equal amount of pomegranate juice, beet juice, and carrot juice and apply it to your dark lips once a day.
