Having a great skin does not usually comes with the DNA, but with a great skincare routine that one follows up to the point. For beginners, it is recommended to start with a basic three step routine, that is the cleanse, moisturize, and apply sunscreen. Obviously, this can be modified, and the products can be altered depending on your individual skincare needs. If you are struggling with acne, you may consider adding a spot treatment. No matter what the case is, the core three steps remain as the foundation of a successful skincare routine. It is important that you limit your skincare routine to only one as it will help you save money and avoid wasting products.

The very first step in building your skincare routine is determining your skin type. Remember, different skin types have varying needs that need to be met by skincare products. An easy way to determine your skin type is to observe your skin throughout the day. Dermatologists classify skin into four main types:

  1. Oil skin: Skin that looks shiny due to overproduction of oil
  2. Dry skin: Skin with dry and flaky areas that might feel tight

After cleansing your face, you will benefit as your face will be free of any dirt and debris that would impact the way products are absorbed. Step 3: Do not forget about sunscreen – There are many people who only use sunscreen during what seems like the obvious time to do so, like a sunny day at the beach. Well, in reality, it is important to war sunscreen everyday and in addition to reducing your skin cancer risk, you will also be preventing the effects of photoaging that can include dark spots and wrinkles. There are many moisturizers and cosmetics that contain SPF, thus making it easy for you to get the sun protection you need without buying more than one product.

Step 4: Pull it all together – With all your products, it is time to put them together into a routine for the morning and the evening. Remember, consistency is key when it comes to skincare, so make sure whatever routine you create is one that you will be able to follow on a daily basis. Step 5: Give your routine time to work – It is normal that you do not get the results as soon as you start a skincare routine. Do not lose hope! For noticeable results, aim to follow your routine for at least six weeks and this is approximately the amount of time it takes your skin to complete the cycle of renewing itself with new skin cells. You will begin to see the impact of the products once this cycle is completed.
