4 Ways to Get Rid of a Sun Tan at Home

Sun tanning occurs when the skin darkens due to increased production of the skin pigment, melanin, after prolonged exposure to ultraviolet rays. Unwanted suntan or uneven skin color can be unpleasant to some. Luckily, we’ve gathered a few tips to help you fade your suntan at home.

1) Tomato Juice

Tomato is an effective remedy for the removal of a suntan. Rich in antioxidants, it helps to fade pigmentation and brightens the skin while opening up the pores and unclogging them. For this remedy, cut a tomato and squeeze the juice into a bowl. Dip in cotton balls and apply on your suntanned skin. Leave the liquid for about 10 to 15 minutes and rinse off with warm water afterward. You can also use this daily.

2) Lemon Juice, Cucumber, and Rose Water

Mix lemon juice, cucumber juice, and rose water equally into a bowl. Use cotton balls to dip and gently apply on the skin. Leave the mixture for 10 to 15 minutes and rinse off with water. The citric acid in lemon juice helps break down dead skin cells, and its bleaching properties reduce pigmentation. Rosewater and cucumber juice have anti-inflammatory properties that help soothe sunburnt skin and gradually eliminate a tan.

3) Aloe Vera

Aloe vera is an excellent remedy for suntanned skin. Not only does this plant has moisturizing properties, but it also helps to lighten the skin within a week if applied daily on the affected area. Cut a piece of aloe vera and apply the gel on your skin. Leave it overnight and wash it off in the morning. Repeat until your tan fades off.

4) Papaya and Honey

Papaya and honey together make an effective anti-tan remedy. The enzyme found in papaya, known as papain, has strong skin-lightening properties and helps to fade blemishes and dark spots as well. On the other hand, honey is extremely moisturizing and helps to speed up the skin’s healing process. Mash half a cup of ripe papaya. Add a tablespoon of honey. Blend until smooth and apply on the face. Leave the mixture on the affected area for about half an hour and wash off with lukewarm or cold water afterward.
